Three cases we hear most often, and what we do in each of them
There is no website yet, or it looks dated and untrustworthy - customers pick competitors with better ones.
The website is live, but invisible in search - leads come from ads while organic traffic stays flat.
The website was hacked, it lags or has not been updated for years - touching it feels risky, leaving it is worse.
Our experience in web development and SEO promotion
Who we are and what we do
In brief. Yaroslav (@modx_pro) founded MODX Lab: a Senior SEO and GEO specialist (optimization for AI-generated search results), a web developer focused on MODX, front-end and UI, and a hands-on practitioner in applying AI. With a technical degree, 21+ years in web development and 19 years in SEO - going back to the very early days of search optimization. The MODX journey started back with Evolution (Evo) - the classic engine still maintained by the Ukrainian community today. Then came MODX Revolution, and work with the platform has continued for about 15 years now.
That experience became the foundation of MODX Lab - a team built around its own approach to development and promotion.
The MODX Lab team includes experienced developers and SEO specialists, frontend engineers for whom pixel-perfect and clean semantics are the standard, not a wish list, plus UX/UI designers who plan and prototype future interfaces. We focus on what we do best: development, SEO, frontend, UX/UI. Design gets brought in separately when needed - or we work from your ready-made mockups. That way every project gets a specialist in their field, not a generalist trying to do it all.
We develop, optimize, and promote websites that dominate search results - on MODX Revolution. It's not just a CMS, but a full Content Management Framework (CMF): it combines convenient content management with the freedom of custom development, free from the limits of template-based solutions. Unlike "boxed" systems, a CMF gives full control over architecture, data structure and site logic - which is exactly why MODX is chosen for projects that need non-standard functionality and an individual approach. And it's not a niche pick: in the CMS rating from IT-Rating, MODX consistently ranks among the top three most popular systems in Ukraine, ahead of dozens of "boxed" solutions.
Our specialization is complex YMYL niches where Google demands the highest standards: medicine, health, beauty, finance, legal services, e-commerce. We work to E-E-A-T principles: building real expertise and trust that search engines recognize and reward with rankings. 20+ years of practice means we can predict how a search engine will respond before we do something, not after. Our clients' websites consistently pass Google's core and spam updates without losses - and when there are risks, we flag them in advance.
We don't work with these niches: escort and adult content, psychics, fortune-telling, esoteric and "magic" services, drugs, gambling, pyramid schemes, forex and crypto, fraudulent schemes and scams of any kind.
We don't work with CMS: WordPress, Joomla, Bitrix, Tilda, Wix and other website builders (if someone offers you a website on this in 2026 - run from those unprofessional types :)).
We don't do vibe coding: we don't write code without understanding it, don't copy-paste from AI without review, and don't hand off projects that will fall apart in six months.
Working with us is like finding a great dentist - once you do, you don't switch.
Situation one: there is no website yet, or it looks dated. What we do
Full-cycle web development:
MODX Revolution - development on both current branches, 2.* and 3.*. We pick the best fit for your goals and budget and set up a convenient admin panel, so you can edit the site yourself - change texts, images and content without a developer.
Backend - multilingual MODX sites built on solid architecture and clean code. Version control, CI/CD deployment, staging environment, DB query optimization and index analysis.
Refactoring & migration - cleaning up old code and legacy projects: removing technical debt, rewriting problem areas, updating outdated dependencies. We offer migration paths to modern technologies and current MODX versions - without losing data or functionality.
Frontend - pixel-accurate layouts for all current devices - desktop, laptop, tablet, mobile. Semantic markup, cross-browser compatibility, retina graphics, critical font loading and image optimization.
Performance - Core Web Vitals in the green zone: minimal LCP, zero layout shift, no render-blocking resources. Critical path optimization, lazy load, resource preloading, server-side caching strategy.
UX/UI & Prototyping - user journeys, wireframes and interactive prototypes validated before a single line of code is written. Usability audit, navigation logic, content hierarchy and interface decisions based on real target audience behavior.
A company website is a sales tool, not a business card «just to have one». We build it around the questions a client asks before getting in touch, and answer objections before the call:
Structure built around services - a separate page for each service or line of work, so they compete in search on their own instead of hiding behind one «Services» page.
Pages that sell - benefits instead of a list of credentials, how the work is done, answers to common objections, a call to action in every block.
Proof instead of promises - case studies with numbers, reviews, certificates, photos of the team and the production floor: the things that actually influence a decision.
Forms and ways to get in touch - enquiry form, phone, messengers: the client chooses what suits them, and enquiries are duplicated to email or Telegram.
Multilingual - UK / RU / EN versions on separate URLs with correct hreflang, if you work beyond the Ukrainian market.
Managed without a developer - a clear admin panel: news, services, case studies and copy are edited by your team.
Ready for promotion - semantic structure, speed and structured data are in place from the start, so SEO does not begin with rebuilding the site.
A landing page solves one task: turning a visitor from an ad into an enquiry. So there are no extra sections - only a flow that leads to the target action:
One offer - one action - the structure follows a specific service or campaign: hero screen, benefits, proof, objections, form.
Fast launch - tight deadlines: the page is ready before the ads go live, not after.
Loading speed - Core Web Vitals in the green: a slow page burns the ad budget before the first screen is even seen.
Forms and conversion - minimal fields, validation, spam protection, enquiries delivered instantly to email or Telegram.
Analytics and goals - GA4, Meta Pixel and form submission goals: you can see which campaign brings enquiries and which just spends budget.
Ready for A/B testing - blocks and copy are easy to rearrange, so hypotheses can be tested without rebuilding the page.
Standalone or part of the site - on its own domain or as a section of the main site when several campaign pages are needed.
A store you can run yourself: products, prices and stock are edited in the admin panel, with no need to call a developer:
Catalogue and product page - categories, attributes, variants and modifications, galleries, related products, SEO fields on every page.
Filters and search - selection by attributes and price without reloading the page, clean URLs for filtered results so they can be indexed.
Cart and checkout - a clear checkout in as few steps as possible, ordering without registration, delivery cost calculation, promo codes.
WayForPay payments - cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay, server-side payment status verification, correct handling of refunds and cancellations.
Nova Poshta delivery - an up-to-date list of branches and parcel lockers right in the order form, cost calculation, waybill generation.
Orders in the admin panel - statuses, history, manager comments, notifications to the customer and to email or Telegram.
Advertising feeds - product exports for Google Merchant and Meta Shopping in a format that passes moderation.
Full site migration from any platform to MODX - without losing search positions, content or internal structure.
What's preserved: URL structure with 301 redirects, meta tags and headings, internal linking, page content in full. A complete redirect map is built before migration starts - no broken links and no 404s after launch, and the short-term dip in rankings recovers within a few weeks.
What gets rebuilt properly: clean MODX architecture instead of plugin bloat, semantic templates instead of auto-generated markup, a fast and manageable admin panel instead of an overcrowded CMS. The result is a site that loads faster, costs less to maintain and performs better in search.
CMS platforms: WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, Bitrix, TYPO3, MODx Evolution, DataLife Engine (DLE), NetCat, UMI.CMS, Amiro.CMS, Opencart, PrestaShop, Magento.
Website builders: Tilda, Wix, Weebly, Squarespace, Webflow, uKit, Nethouse, Taplink.
Custom solutions: handwritten PHP, legacy frameworks, outdated in-house CMS - migrated with full content and structure audit.
We turn manual routine into processes that run themselves - set up once, then years without your involvement:
MODX scripts & plugins - custom snippets, hooks and plugins for your logic: what ready-made solutions don't cover.
Notifications & scenarios - automatic emails, Telegram messages, alerts about leads and events - triggered, not manual.
Scheduled tasks (cron) - recurring operations on a schedule: backups, reports, data updates, mailouts, cleanup.
Parsing & data collection - automatic gathering of data from external sources and processing it into the format you need.
Form & lead handling - capture, validation and routing of leads to the right systems and people with nothing lost.
Interactive maps as a working tool on the site, not a plain embed:
Google Maps API - custom map styling, branch and object markers, info windows, routes and directions built into the page.
Leaflet & OpenStreetMap - a lightweight open-source alternative when a free, fast-loading map without API quotas and billing is the priority.
Marker clustering - grouping dozens or hundreds of points into clusters that expand as the user zooms in, keeping the map readable at any scale.
Custom markers & layers - branded pins, category filters, layer toggles and popups with photos, descriptions and links.
Instant filtering by point data - filters by category, district, price or any other marker attribute; the map, markers and clusters update instantly, no page reload.
Geolocation & routing - "find the nearest branch" logic, distance calculation and directions straight from the map.
Data-driven maps - markers generated from a database or CMS (MIGX/MODX), so new locations appear on the map without touching the code.
The stage that saves budget: mismatched expectations are caught on a diagram, not in finished code where a rewrite costs ten times more:
Task and competitor analysis - what the website is for, who the audience is, what already works in the niche and which competitor solutions are worth considering.
Site structure - a page map, the logic of sections and navigation, templates for typical pages, designed with future SEO in mind.
Prototypes - wireframes of key pages: what goes where, which blocks, in what order, and the path a user takes to submitting an enquiry.
Technical specification - functionality described in plain language: what each block does, which fields appear in the admin panel, how the site behaves in edge cases.
Estimate and milestones - cost and timelines per stage, fixed before the start: you know what you are paying for and can see progress, not just hear about it.
The spec is yours - the document stays with you and can be used with any contractor, not only with us.
Situation two: the website is live, but invisible in search. What we do
Full cycle across three directions:
On-Page - content strategy, keyword mapping, meta tags, heading structure, URL architecture, internal linking logic, image optimization for crawl and load.
Off-Page - link building, local citations, niche directories, drop domains: sourcing relevant expired domains, transferring link equity, recovering damaged backlink profiles.
Technical - server response time, HTTP headers, crawl budget management, canonical and hreflang implementation, sitemap structure, robots.txt logic, duplicate detection, redirect chain analysis, backend error impact on indexation, server log analysis and crawler behavior patterns.
E-E-A-T & YMYL - building expertise, experience, authoritativeness and trust. Especially critical in YMYL niches (medicine, health, finance, legal services), where Google demands the highest standards and ranks most strictly.
Google penalty & filter recovery - complex work where every case is different. We diagnose the cause and handle the main types of penalties:
Panda - thin and low-quality content, duplicate pages.
Penguin - spammy or paid links, anchor over-optimization.
Manual Action - unnatural links, spam, cloaking, hacked site.
Helpful Content - content built for search engines, not for people.
SpamBrain and spam updates - Google's automated anti-spam system.
Core Updates - ranking drops after broad algorithm updates.
We find the real cause, fix it and prepare the site for review. The outcome can't be guaranteed - it depends on the specific situation, but we do everything possible to recover rankings.
Optimization for next-generation search: so you're not just found on Google, but cited in AI answers - Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude.
GEO / AEO - optimization for generative and answer engines: content built so models take it as a source for the answer rather than scrolling past.
Structure for citation - clear definitions, FAQ blocks, facts and figures that are easy to lift into a ready answer.
Markup & semantics - correct heading hierarchy, semantic HTML, Schema.org and passage-level optimization for the fragments AI picks as authoritative.
E-E-A-T & trust - expertise and authority signals that both search and language models weigh when choosing a source.
llms.txt & AI access - configuring AI crawler access, the llms.txt file, and control over how and which content models pull from the site.
Visibility & control - tracking which queries and AI answers surface your brand, and working on that presence.
Stable presence in local results and maps:
Google Business Profile - full setup and optimization: categories, services, description, photos, products, regular posts and updates.
NAP signals - consistent name, address and phone on the site and across all directories: mismatches confuse Google and erode trust.
Local landing pages - dedicated pages for cities, districts and service zones with genuine local relevance, not a city name swapped in a template.
Local citations & directories - audit and placement in relevant directories, aggregators and industry platforms.
Reviews & reputation - review acquisition strategy, response management, rating monitoring and handling negative feedback.
Local semantics - geo-tagged query coverage by district, transit hubs and service zones, plus "near me" intent.
Schema & geo markup - LocalBusiness, address, opening hours, areaServed with coordinates and targeted coverage within a ~25km radius, delivery and service zones.
Maps & geo services - presence in Google Maps, correct pins, photos and directions.
A format for those who already have a developer, a marketer or an in-house SEO specialist: you get the expertise and the plan, and your own team does the work:
Review of the current situation - we look at the site, the analytics and the search results, and explain in plain language what is going on and why traffic behaves the way it does.
A second opinion on someone else's recommendations - a review of an audit or strategy from another contractor: what is genuinely needed and what is extra work paid for out of your budget.
A plan, not a task list - what to do first, what second and what not to do at all: priorities by impact on the result, not by volume of work.
Tasks written for your team - wording a developer and a content manager can act on, instead of a vague «do some SEO».
Working with contractors - we help you assess proposals and judge whether the timelines and budget match what is being offered.
Ongoing support if needed - a one-off consultation or regular calls: we step in on the hard parts while your team handles the routine.
An honest answer - if the task cannot be solved with your current resources, or you do not need SEO right now, we say so instead of selling you work.
Full cycle: from configuring each service and integrating it into the site to data collection and analytics that answers "what actually makes money" - not just piling up numbers.
Google Analytics 4 (GA4)
Setup & site integration - creating the account and data stream, connecting GA4 to the site via Google Tag or GTM, verifying data is collected correctly.
Events & conversions - key events and conversions tied to real business goals: leads, purchases, calls, clicks.
Micro-conversions - scroll depth, time on page, click patterns, form and video interactions.
E-commerce & end-to-end - cart, checkout, the path to transaction, revenue and ROI by source.
Segmentation & attribution - audience segments, multi-touch attribution models, funnel drop-off diagnosis.
Deferred loading - our own scripts for deferred analytics loading: trackers don't block rendering, first-screen paint improves and page delivery speed goes up.
Google Tag & Tag Manager (GTM)
Installation & site integration - full cycle: creating the account and container, installing the Google Tag (gtag) and GTM code into the site template, verifying tags fire correctly.
Container & dataLayer setup - custom triggers, variables and a correct dataLayer matched to your site's data model, linked to GA4, Ads and other services.
Server-side tracking & privacy - server-side GTM, Consent Mode and cookie consent handling, resilience to ad blockers.
Deferred loading - our own scripts for deferred Google Tag loading: the tag doesn't block rendering, first-screen paint improves and page delivery speed goes up.
Google Search Console (GSC)
Connection & verification - adding and verifying the site, submitting the sitemap, checking indexation and coverage.
Search data - queries, impressions, clicks, positions and indexation issues in one place.
Behavior correlation - matching search data with on-site behavior: from query to conversion.
Reports & dashboards
In-house dashboard generators - we use our own dashboard generation tools for clear, good-looking reporting: data from GA4, GSC, Google Merchant and Topvisor is pulled into readable panels - every metric in one place.
Sourcing and connecting domains with a real, established link history - to strengthen rankings and give a project a fast start:
Search & selection - finding expired domains for your niche: by topic, language, region and required metrics.
Domain history - Web Archive verification: what the site used to be, with no spam, doorways or topic shifts.
Backlink profile - analyzing incoming links: referring domain quality, anchors, link velocity, no spam networks or paid links.
Thematic relevance - assessing niche fit and topical authority, so the link equity helps rather than harms.
Penalty diagnostics - checking for manual actions, Google filters and spam history: only clean domains make the cut.
Link equity transfer - technically correct migration: 301 redirects or content recovery, with no dilution, duplicates or indexation issues.
Registration & management - catching dropping domains, registration, renewal and monitoring so the domain doesn't slip away.
Structured data Google actually picks up - for rich results, knowledge cards and trust from both search and AI:
Any schema type - matched to your business: Organization, LocalBusiness, Product, Offer, Article, FAQ, Breadcrumb, Event, Review, JobPosting and more - we pick what actually delivers in your niche.
Rich results - star ratings, prices and availability, breadcrumbs, FAQ accordions, images and other elements that make the site stand out in search.
Local business & geo - LocalBusiness with address, opening hours and areaServed: targeted coverage within a ~25km radius, geo-coordinates and service zones.
E-commerce - Product, Offer, AggregateRating: correct prices, availability, currency and reviews for product snippets.
CMS auto-generation - markup generated by scripts from site data and updated automatically: new products and pages get correct structured data instantly, no manual editing.
Standards-compliant JSON-LD - clean JSON-LD (Google's recommended format), with no conflicts or duplication against existing markup.
Validation & monitoring - checks via Rich Results Test and Schema Validator, error and enhancement monitoring in Search Console.
Markup for AI search - structured data also helps language models understand and cite your content accurately in AI answers.
Product feeds and storefronts for Google and Meta - so your products reach Shopping, search and ads with no errors or manual routine.
Google Merchant Center
Account setup - store registration and verification, domain confirmation, Google Ads linking, correct shipping and tax settings.
Feed generation - automatic product feed built from the site catalog: all required and recommended attributes, product variants, GTIN/MPN, Google categories.
Promotions & pricing - correct handling of discounts, sale prices and promotions.
Product reviews - Product Ratings and Google Customer Reviews integration for star ratings in search and ads.
Free listings - getting into Google's free listings and the Shopping tab, not just paid ads.
Meta / Instagram Shopping
Catalog & storefront - catalog setup in Meta Commerce Manager, shop storefront on Facebook and Instagram.
Product tags - clickable product tags in posts, Stories and Reels leading straight to purchase.
Single data source - the same feed and site catalog sync to Meta as well - no double bookkeeping of products.
Situation three: the website was hacked, it lags or is stuck without updates. What we do
Growing a website that already works and makes money: changes ship step by step, with a way back, so nothing that already works breaks:
New features - calculators, filters, customer accounts, forms and flows built around your business logic.
New sections and templates - extra page types, campaign landing pages, changes to the catalogue structure.
Interface rework - updating the markup of specific blocks and pages without a full redesign.
Working with inherited code - improving projects written by other developers: first we understand the architecture, then we change it.
Staging and safe releases - changes land on a test environment first, production only after you approve.
Transparent estimates - every task is estimated in hours before it starts: you know the cost upfront, not after the fact.
Upgrading an outdated MODX is not an «update» button: old add-ons and custom code are often incompatible with the new branch. So the work happens on a copy, and the live site stays untouched until the very last step:
Pre-upgrade audit - current MODX and PHP versions, the list of add-ons, custom snippets and plugins, an assessment of the risks and of what exactly may break.
Work on a copy of the site - a full clone on a test environment: all the work and all the breakage stay there while production keeps running as usual.
Manual, not automatic - the core, add-ons and PHP version are upgraded step by step with a compatibility check at each stage, instead of one blind bulk update.
Replacing incompatible add-ons - for abandoned or broken components we find maintained alternatives or rewrite the functionality for the new version.
Functionality testing - forms, cart, search, filters, integrations and the admin panel: key scenarios are checked before the switch, not after customers complain.
Finding and fixing post-upgrade errors - going through logs, PHP and JS errors, broken layout and misbehaving add-ons until everything is stable.
Moving to production - the upgraded version, together with up-to-date content, is deployed at a convenient time, with a fresh backup and a rollback plan.
Continuous maintenance with real knowledge of the project's architecture and history - problems solved at the root, not patched over until they resurface six months later:
Bug fixing - diagnosing and resolving bugs, including someone else's code and legacy from previous developers.
Monitoring & uptime - availability, speed and error monitoring, failure alerts and fast incident response.
Backups - regular backups and the ability to quickly roll the site back if something goes wrong.
Speed & performance - keeping Core Web Vitals healthy, optimizing as content and load grow.
Security - timely patches, vulnerability control and response to suspicious activity.
Content & routine - content entry, text and product edits, small tasks without keeping an in-house developer.
Transparent work - clear tasks and deadlines, reporting, no "magic" and no code nobody can make sense of later.
Full cycle of setup, protection and maintenance:
Hosting setup - choosing and configuring hosting and VPS for the project, administration, tuning for fast and stable performance.
Domains & Cloudflare - any domain work: DNS, proxy, caching, traffic rules, HTTPS certificates.
Backups - regular backups with quick site restore if something breaks.
Bot & spam protection - traffic filtering and blocking of malicious requests that overload the site and skew analytics.
Cloaking protection - detecting content substitution that attackers or compromised scripts serve to search engines.
Hack recovery - finding and removing malicious code, spam links and doorways, restoring the site after a hack.
The stack our projects run on
The services we use to track rankings, traffic and the technical health of a site
700+ websites and site improvements over 21 years, including freelance platforms, where the team once ranked in the top for MODX and SEO, successfully closing around 800 jobs. Development, improvements, SEO, fixing other specialists' mistakes.
Over the years we've built dozens of projects of various scale and complexity: from simple landing pages to large platforms with thousands of pages. Here are the main types of websites we've worked on:
Many of our sites hold top rankings in highly competitive niches, not just a spot on page one - true dominance across multiple queries at once. That same authority carries over into AI search: our sites are actively cited as a source in AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini answers, part of the emerging GEO/AEO landscape shaping how people find information today.
Most of our projects are covered by NDAs or informal agreements with clients, so we don't publish them in an open portfolio. But we're open about it - happy to hop on a call or meet in person and show live projects, real cases and current numbers.
Reach out however suits you - we reply personally, no managers or scripts
